Summerscreen - Free Movies in the Park!

Yaaaay, L Magazine's Summerscreen is back!! This year the movies aren't at the pool (duh, because it's closed, *tear) but at the McCarren ball fields. Not exactly sure which ball fields, but I'm sure it won't be hard to spot the giant movie screen and tons of kids gathered round.

The free summer movies get off to a start at dusk on July 8th with Reality Bites and go till August 12th with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Here's what the schedule looks like:

July 8: Reality Bites
July 15: Evil Dead 2
July 22: 24 Hour Party People
July 29: Wild at Heart
August 5: Fame
August 12: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I'm in. Hooraaaaaay for summer!

This movie Paper Heart looks really sweet. So Charlyne Yi (the funny, super awkward roommate in Knocked Up) wrote this fake-ish documentary about relationships and if love really exists.

Yi also stars in the film as Chuck, a girl who doesn't believe in love but travels around the country filming a documentary about it. She interviews people who are in love, were in love, who've never been in love, who are heartbroken, that sort of thing. But a funny thing happens when Chuck meets Micheal (as in Michael Cera, who happens to be her bf in real life) and they start to crush on each other!

The previews make the movie look really sweet and funny. Plus, Michael Cera and Charylne are so awkward individually that together it's pretty funny.

Land of the Lost!

The Land of the Lost was a TV show aired amid Saturday morning cartoons in the 70's, then again in the 90's, and now they are making a movie based on it starring Will Ferrel. I used to loooove this show, I think its awesome that they are making a movie of it, even though it probably won't be all that great. Trailer for the movie below.

This is the show intro from the 90's. Oh how I wish I was little, watching Saturday morning cartoons and eating pop tarts, instead of working on a Saturday morning. FML.

(500) Days of Summer

I really want to see this new movie called (500) Days of Summer. It's got Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in it and comes out end of July.

The plot: Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love with girl. Girl doesn't love boy. Go watch the trailer, it looks adorable.

And by the way, when did Joseph Gordon-Levitt get so hot? Seriously, when? Crush.

Brooklyn DIY

Filmmaker Marcin Ramocki is debuting a documentary tonight titled Brooklyn DIY, which chronicles the creative/artistic boom that happened in Williamsburg in the early 80's and the changes and gentrification that has occurred in the neighborhood over the past 20 years. The Village Voice interviewed him recently, and he explains his intentions behind the film and what he learned while making it. The Voice also has a trailer for the film. Premieres tonight at the MOMA, 8:30 pm.
